The Shadows Between Us ARC Review

Synopsis: Alessandra is tired of being overlooked, but she has a plan to gain power:

1) Woo the Shadow King.
2) Marry him.
3) Kill him and take his kingdom for herself.

No one knows the extent of the freshly crowned Shadow King’s power. Some say he can command the shadows that swirl around him to do his bidding. Others say they speak to him, whispering the thoughts of his enemies. Regardless, Alessandra knows what she deserves, and she’s going to do everything within her power to get it.

But Alessandra’s not the only one trying to kill the king. As attempts on his life are made, she finds herself trying to keep him alive long enough for him to make her his queen—all while struggling not to lose her heart. After all, who better for a Shadow King than a cunning, villainous queen?

Genre: Romance, Fantasy

Alessandra starts with an enemies to romance with Kallias where she was supposed to kill him but as she gets to know him in her time at the castle, she uncovers an assassination plot for the king. Where in she wants to be the one killing him and no one else. But she falls in love with him and everything changes. Kallias is actually a sweet man despite his fierce and dark reputation for being a dark and scary king. Their romance is filled with with passion and want and such sweet romance. Alessandra is a strong and independent woman who needs no man and she can achieve everything herself and know she wants to take the kingdom and become Queen. She isn’t a villain of the story or an anti-hero. She just has strong morals which made me really love her because I could relate with her wants and opinions in the book. This book has a really strong Slytherin type of love story where in a bad girl meets her bad boy.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I loved this book so much! It’s the type of romance fantasy book that I’ve been dreaming about and someone finally wrote it perfectly! This is my dream book and definitely one of the best standalones I’ve ever read.

I’ve always been a fan of Tricia Levenseller’s writing style and I feel like her writing style is romantic fantasy bliss where in she blends in fantasy with swoony romance. I also get hooked easily by her writing style and I read this book in just one day! I was so hooked that I literally could not put it down.

Alessandra is like me in many ways and for instance we are both Slytherins (Harry Potter). She has a strong and independent personality which helps her get what she wants. I don’t see this type of character that much in books so I’m really glad someone finally wrote a female character with this persona.

The romance is everything and you guys will fall head over heels with Kallias! He’s like the mix of Prince Cardan, Rhysand, and the Darkling and I couldn’t ask for a better male character. They have a enemies to lovers relationship and that bad girl and bad boy trope. They both have strong morals and it’s like they were made for each other and who doesn’t want a romance like that right!

Writing style: 5/5

Plot: 5/5

Romance:

🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Overall rating:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Song to sing with this book: Cruel Summer by Taylor Swift

Every line from Cruel Summer is perfect for this book and it’s also one of my most favorite songs in her new album so this book and this song are just perfect for each other!

I highly recommend this book if you’re a huge Slytherin romance fan. And especially if you love bad boys and dark kings in your books. I have no other words on how to describe how perfect the story was. It was complete with character development and blissful romance.

They end up together like any love story and it was beautifully written. I highly recommend this if you’re a fan of ACOTAR, The Cruel Prince, and Shadow and Bone.
