Winterwood by Shea Earnshaw ARC Review

Synopsis: From the New York Times bestselling author of The Wicked Deep comes a haunting romance set deep in the magical snow-covered forest, where the appearance of a mysterious boy unearths secrets that awakens the enchanted, but angry, woods.

Be careful of the dark, dark wood . . .

Especially the woods surrounding the town of Fir Haven. Some say these woods are magical. Haunted, even.

Rumored to be a witch, only Nora Walker knows the truth. She and the Walker women before her have always shared a special connection with the woods. And it’s this special connection that leads Nora to Oliver Huntsman—the same boy who disappeared from the Camp for Wayward Boys weeks ago—and in the middle of the worst snowstorm in years. He should be dead, but here he is alive, and left in the woods with no memory of the time he’d been missing.

But Nora can feel an uneasy shift in the woods at Oliver’s presence. And it’s not too long after that Nora realizes she has no choice but to unearth the truth behind how the boy she has come to care so deeply about survived his time in the forest, and what led him there in the first place. What Nora doesn’t know, though, is that Oliver has secrets of his own—secrets he’ll do anything to keep buried, because as it turns out, he wasn’t the only one to have gone missing on that fateful night all those weeks ago.

First of all, thank you so much to the Simon Teen team for sending me this beautiful ARC along with the pin! This does not affect my review for this book, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Shea Ernshaw’s writing style from The Wicked Deep so it was no surprise for me to love this one as well. She has a very vivid and hooking writing style and whenever I start reading her books, I can’t seem to stop. I also like how this book was not too long and was not too short either. It’s a very beautiful story and I love the mystery of it just like how I loved reading The Wicked Deep.

The book is very vivid in the mystery of the small town and the woods that are magical as they are dangerous. There’s a lot of omens of witches and death throughout the book which keeps it interesting. It also has a good mystery of starting with Nora finding a missing boy in the Wicker Woods.

It also has the theme of young love and teenagers making mistakes. It’s like a contemporary romance but mixed with folk-tale like fantasy and mystery. It’s definitely a must read if you’re looking for the next book to read after The Wicked Deep.

I am in love with the plot twist of it all and this is definitely a must read!!!

Plot: 4/5

Overall rating:

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I loved how it did not have heavy themes across the world building of it all. It was a very relaxed read and it is definitely a must read for people who are looking for a unique mystery YA story.
